Case Study - Chemistry Building

A visually stunning building with an innovative design Forestside were responsible for all the external cedar and terracotta including the iconic “horns”. This project is not just aesthetically impressive, behind the terracotta and cedar cladding is a complicated build up that incorporate, the airtight and insulation layers and vast timber sub structure.

In addition to the cladding we also designed, manufactured and installed bespoke timber suspended “service booms” to receive all the M&E from the laboratories.

The landmark building is designed to be carbon neutral and as such material resourcing was of paramount importance.

Key Issues and Considerations:

  • Delivered on time and to budget
  • As well as many other building and architecture awards the building won the 2016 UK award for Best Educational Building (Universities and Colleges).
  • BREEAM outstanding.
  • Carbon Neutral
  • High level of public interest including national television coverage
  • Highest Levels of SHEQ achieved
